A Working Farm Steeped In History

As Told By Karen Guy

Andrew Jackson lived here for a few years, probably about 1797-1803. The farm has been in the family since the late 1800s.

When Aubrey and Louise Maxwell moved from Nashville in 1935, the farm consisted of about 230 acres, and they used mules and draft horses to plow and plant.

Aubrey had sheep, hogs, cows, turkeys, horses and mules. He used to invite school groups to the farm to watch the sheep shearing when it was time.

In 2007, I placed the farm's acreage into The Land Trust for Tennessee. My daughter and nephews will inherit this farm when I am gone. They can farm it or sell it, but whatever happens this land can never be developed."
